Street Outreach Ministry
Hitchin Christian Centre street outreach operates on Friday and Saturday nights between the hours of 7:30pm and 10pm. The purpose of this outreach is to demonstrate care in action to our community. By means of a manually pushed 'soup cart', outlying estates plus the town centre are targeted with a view to engaging the juvenile element in conversation. We talk to children from 8 to 15 years old.
Obviously there are no fixed age parameters - all are welcome - but this age group tends to be representative of those who hang around on the streets, doing whatever takes their fancy (drink, drugs etc..). We are slowly establishing a rapport with this section of our community and hopefully are able to convey that there are people who are interested in what the youth of today has to say.
As a witness the outreach goes far beyond just the teenagers. All classes of society of all ages sees teh stand that the church is making in this area and therefore the message of care in action is spoken, and continues to speak to all those people who see our outreach in this town.
World-Wide
Tear Fund
This is an outreach ministry serving Jesus Christ by enabling those who share evangelical Christina beliefs to bring good news to the poor via a world-wide network of Christian partners. This is expressed proclaiming and demonstrating the Gospel for the whole person in relief, development and prayer supported by Christians in Britain and Ireland. It also includes TEAR Craft, which is the fair trading arm of TEAR Fund from the Third World to us. To visit the Tear Fund website click on the logo.
Israel
Hitchin Christian Centre is very concerned about what is happening in Israel. Some of our members have visited the country, and a group regularly prays for Israel, sometimes joining with groups from other churches who also share this burden.
