Something For Everyone

At Hitchin Christian Centre we believe everyone is important and have designed our wide range of activities to cover all needs. The following pages give brief details of some of the things that we do.

Care Groups

A care group is a small group of people who meet together most weeks in a home. The aim of the care group is for everyone to grow in their relationship with God and with the others in the group. Because the groups are small, people are less inhibited and closer friendships can be formed. The group cares for one another by regular contact through 'phone calls, letters or visits, particularly to members of the group who are ill or who have not attended for several weeks.

Meetings usually begin with a time of sharing and worship. Groups then study specific passages from the Bible. These studies often link up with the Sunday service teaching. There is then an opportunity to share any needs, followed by a time of prayer. Everyone is welcome to join a care group.

Alpha

Alpha course is a specific 10-week study course for new Christians and also for those enquiring about the Christian faith. It gives an opportunity for open group discussion in a warm and friendly environment.

Prayer Support

Hitchin Christian centre runs a 'Prayer Chain'. This is an effective way of relaying important requests for prayer, as the whole church will be praying for that need within a few hours of the co-ordinator receiving the request. As we believe so strongly in the power of prayer, we also have early morning prayer meetings, and once a month meet together to pray for needs we may have as a church, or for individual needs. Prayer also forms a key part of the weekly Prayer Groups.

Evangelism

As a church we have always been evangelistic and we take seriously the command of Jesus to go into all the world and preach the gospel. This means we have always emphasised the importance of reaching out to unbelievers with the Gospel. To this end we have regular evangelistic services where we use music, drama, testimony and preaching to communicate the message of Jesus Christ. We also use street evangelism as a means of spreading the Gospel to others.
