On the journey of life, we can look to the bible, the word of God, as a roadmap for our earthly pilgrimage.
Joshua 1:8 says “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” At the beginning of the year, we want to make a point to go deeper in our daily intake of the holy scriptures. Just like Joshua, we want to:
- Study it often
- Meditate on it regularly
- Obey it boldly
In doing this, God’s word will enlighten our path, lead us through divine principles, take us in the right direction and land us in a place of fulfilment.
The Lord’s message to Joshua, and to everyone, is to be courageous. The journey won’t always be straightforward, but, in spite of the potholes and obstacles, we can be confident of the Lord’s assistance. He is the helper that never gets weary. God promises us his constant presence and assistance. He said to Joshua “… as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you. Be strong and of good courage…” (Joshua 1:5-6).
The word of God deals with every issue or challenge of life. It is the most credible guide to teach us the right way. As we read it, let us depend on the Holy Spirit’s leading so as to know what to do and how to go about. No matter what comes our way – at home, in school or in the marketplace – let these words of Jesus speak loudly to ourselves: “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me“ (John 14:1).
Finally, in the process, the bible teaches us not to lean on our own understanding but to rely and obey the Lord if we want to experience real peace and God’s kind of success.
