Listening and following 24-7

Series: Tony's Blog

"I am the Lord your God who teaches you to profit. Who leads you by the way you should go!" (Isaiah 48:17)

This month we will be spending time in concentrated prayer during our 24x7 prayer week. It is a time for waiting and listening to God for guidance on a personal level, but also for the ministries of our Church. I want us to focus today on the fact that God is our heavenly Father, who’s greatest desire is to bless His children. Can you imagine our heavenly Father wanting less for His children than you and I want for ours? Linda and I have two children, Sam and Matt. Sam is a talented singer and songwriter, runs a children’s club and works with difficult children at a senior school in our town, as well as being a full time single mum. Matt leads a national youth organization, is an associate Pastor of our church, runs a youth club, as well as being a full time father and husband to his family. If you think I’m proud of them – you’re right!  I delight in their success. Whatever touches them, touches me. Whatever I can do to help them succeed, I will gladly do.

Are you getting the message? Our heavenly Father wants us to know that He cares about our career, education, business, home, marriage, family, health, and everything that concerns you. He also promises to teach us how to profit in everything we put our hand to. The big question is, are we listening and following His instructions? The best teacher in the world can do nothing for us unless we acknowledge that we still have much to learn. During this week of prayer, we must open our hearts and mind to receive it. I believe we are standing on the brink of amazing growth and blessing, as a church and community – during this week of prayer is a significant time for us in understanding our destiny and claiming God’s promises.

God said to Joshua (Joshua 18:3) "How long will you wait before you begin to take possession?" God promised them the land, and Joshua led them to it, yet seven of the tribes of Israel had done nothing to possess it. Are we like that today? Just because we know our destiny, and understand what God has promised us, doesn’t mean we will fulfill it! Our destiny is determined by our decisions – I want to encourage you to make time during 24x7 to seek God and consult His word before you make them. If you are already thinking, "I’m too busy!" Doing what? God doesn’t reward our efforts, He rewards our obedience! Let’s settle this in our hearts, to build our lives on what’s important, not what’s urgent. Prayer might not seem important at the moment, but in the final analysis, nothing is more important. Set our priorities according to our destiny and let’s start to experience all that our heavenly Father has prepared for those who truly love Him.
