I like to listen to music that's not christian...
Q: I like to listen to music that's not christian, as a christian is it a sin to do that?
A: Hi, thanks for the question! It is definitely NOT sinful to listen to non-Christian music. God has given us the wonderful gift of music, to enjoy and participate in. We have been given quite a variety of music - jazz, classical, rhythm and blues, rock, and many others. We all have
different tastes, and there is always something to suit each one. I personally like quite a variety of sounds and styles - depending on the mood I'm in! Sometimes quiet and meditative, sometimes excitable and joyful - all different, but a gift for all of us to appreciate.
God is not a narrow God, He is a God of abundant life, and it's such a shame some Christians teach that it must be Christian music or nothing! What we must be careful about however are the lyrics - I am very concerned about lyrics which are sexually explicit, or entice it's hearers to get involved in drugs, occult, alcohol, or anything else that can cause problems should we be tempted to adhere to them. Many young people today are vulnerable to such suggestions. I am definitely against such destructive music with such messages. But enjoy the rest. I should add I love good Christian music also -something that causes me to worship God, and allow the Holy Spirit to change me from the inside out.
Hope that helps,
Tony
