Better Together 09
2009 has been the year where we have discovered that in all aspects of our lives – it’s much ‘Better Together!’ At home, in church, or in our community, we just are not created to be alone. We all need each other! Paul learned this lesson when he wrote to the church at Corinth to say “Then many will give thanks on our behalf, for the gracious favour granted us in answer to the prayers of many.” (2 Corinthians 1:11) He is at a very low point in his life “We are under great pressure – far beyond our ability to endure!” (2 Corinthians 1:8) He is overwhelmed, and on the verge of giving up. HAVE YOU EVER BEEN THERE? I have! And am still learning the same lessons Paul learned – i.e.:
- Dependence on God. (2 Corinthians 1:9) “But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God.” It is a hard thing to admit and extremely humbling, that I don’t have what it takes, that I can’t handle it without God! But when He is all you’ve got, you’ll find He is all you need.
- Dependence upon others. He writes “In answer to the prayers of many.” Don’t carry that burden alone. Reach out to others for help, and you’ll be amazed what happens. It’s when you’re alone, you become most vulnerable. Peter was alone when he denied his Lord; David was alone when he saw Bathsheba. We need each other. I just love what David says “God gives families to the lonely!”(Psalm 68:6) Thank God for His church, a family of people who care. (you can’t beat the prayers of many!) God sends others to bless you, strengthen you, and be a support system in your life! Jesus said “If two of you be agreed on earth about anything you ask for, it will be done for you!” (Matthew 18:19) Linda and I know this from our own experience of seeing our daughter completely healed of a disease that threatened to cripple her for life – because we saw not just our church, but a group of churches and believing Christians pray and refused to give up until God answered. BETTER TOGETHER – you can’t beat the prayers of many!
So, as we approach Christmas, with all it’s glitter and joy and celebration – lets thank God together for the one who came to brake down all barriers, to change a selfish world, into a world where we accept each other gladly, rejoicing in our differences, love each other, and care for each other. THANK GOD FOR JESUS – LET'S GIVE HIM HIS RIGHTFUL PLACE IN OUR HEARTS AND HOMES.
“The Lord bless you and keep you, and cause His face to shine upon you, and give you His peace!”
Linda and I pray for a very happy Christmas for all our family at HCC!
