Are there still prophets today?
Q: Are there still prophets today? And can God add scripture to the bible (like the book of mormon)?
A: Hi - thanks for the questions. To answer your first question - "Are there prophets today?" - yes, God has placed many gifts in the church to help to encourage and strengthen the church, and one of these is the gift of prophecy (Romans 12:6).
However, these gifts are not additional divine inspiration, i.e. in addition to the Bible. In fact, the only real way of being sure they are from God, as apposed to people's own thoughts, is to check whether they align up with the Bible - which is the only Word of God! And Word of truth! If they don't, then it is not considered to be the truth from God.
There is no additional revelation needed to find out about God and His plans for us, than the Bible. It is the only authorized Word of God. God warns about adding to, or taking away from, His Book -the Bible. Revelation 22:18,19. 2 Peter 1:19-21.
John 3:16 "This is how much God loved the world: He gave His one and only Son, so that no-one need be destroyed; by believing in Him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life!"
